UNDERSTANDING YOUR RECORDS

What a 0–10 pain rating can tell you

A numeric pain rating is a way to describe your experience. It is not a diagnosis, a measure of tissue damage or a score that determines whether you deserve care.

Rate the moment you are recording

In Muqi Pain Journal, 0 means no pain and 10 means the worst pain you can imagine. Choose the number closest to how you feel at the recorded time. The app is not asking for a whole-day average on the entry form.

If a number feels incomplete, add a description of what you could or could not do. Two people can use the same number for different experiences. Your notes help put the rating in context.

Compare like with like

Look at location, timing and circumstances alongside numbers. A knee rating after walking and a headache rating on waking describe different observations; combining them can hide useful detail.

The daily chart averages recorded ratings for each day. The visit summary’s average is per entry over the chosen period. A day with many entries therefore influences the period average more than a day with one entry. Neither average is a validated clinical trend score.

A gap is not zero

An explicit 0 is a recorded pain-free moment. A blank day means no entry. The app keeps these separate. Other symptom entries do not need a numerical severity, and missing measurements remain missing.

Do not use a low score, a falling average or this website to rule out urgent problems. Sudden severe symptoms, chest pain or difficulty breathing need appropriate local emergency help without waiting to record them.
